Hunger or Thirst?
In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak it's often mistaken for hunger! 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Watch out - even mild dehydration can slow down your metabolism as much as 3%! Think you're feeling snack-ish? Just one glass of water shut down midnight hunger pains for 100% of dieters in a study by the University of Washington. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily can help reduce your risk of colon, breast, and bladder cancer. Are you drinking a healthy amount of water every day?
March is Nutrition Month!
Gain control of your body's own calorie-burning engine by re-setting your metabolism - try avoiding the consumption of alcohol for 30 days. Fat metabolism can decrease over 70% for several hours after having a drink. Think it might be a challenge to pass up that tasty cocktail at the restaurant? Remember this - the body burns alcohol calories first leaving other ingested calories to be converted and stored as fat!
Where do you get your iron?
Wanting to give up red meat in your diet but concerned about losing such a good source of iron? Consider this: beans and dark green leafy vegetables are especially good sources of iron, even better on a per calorie basis than meat!
Enjoy your food!
Chew slowly and savor the mouth sensations, aromas, and tastes. You'll find you're fuller and more satisfied when you take the time to enjoy your food rather than rushing through your meals.
Think you're still hungry?
Before you go back for a second helping, have some water and give yourself 15-20 minutes to let the chemical process of digestion begin and send signals to the brain telling you you're full! After that, if you're still hungry, help yourself to a small serving of something protein-rich which will help you feel full for longer until your next meal.
Water your brain!
Drink fresh water and as much water as you can. Water flushes unwanted toxins from your body and keeps your brain sharp. (Lululemon Manifesto)
